Flash CS5 Demo
We ’bout to get real nerdy up in this bitch, this isn’t for the faint of mind. In this official Adobe demo (below) we learn about some of the new features in the soon-to-be-released Flash CS5. The big ones include a reworked text engine, advanced video settings and a new file format that greatly improves the almighty workflow.
New Text Engine
The biggest pain in the ass in Flash is text. CS5 goes a long way towards fixing that. The new features allow you to link text fields, add multi column text, and is much more intuitive when internationalizing your project.
Playback Video on Stage & Video Cue Points
Now you can playback video directly inside of flash. This is a big improvement as you can now adjust properties without having to export to view the results. Video cue points allows you to add action-script to specific times in the video.
Improved Font Embedding
Includes new font embedding panel that shows a list of all embedded fonts. Small but nice improvement.
New XFL file format
An alternative to FLA format which stores your project as a series of XML, JPG, FLV and other editable files that allow for better version control of all of the contents of your project. For example, images imported to flash and saved as XFL will be stored in a folder, if you edit this image in photoshop, the changes will be reflected automatically in your Flash project.
Action Script Snippets

This is something I’ve been waiting a long time for; Built-in AS3 snippets that allow you to quickly add AS3 to objects.
Other New Features Include:
- Code completion for custom classes
- Script error assist
- New FLV playback skins
- Minor changes to color panel
